Touch screen technology can aid many industries be it retail, sport, local government or hospitality; and it can also help the transport sector.

Deploying a Kiosk at a railway station can provide several facilities, enhancing both the traveller’s experience and the general running at the platforms. A self-service touch screen unit can;

- Ticket dispense so the customer does not have to linger in long queues, waiting to be served by a member of staff. The traveller can simply book, pay and collect their train ticket all in one place at the kiosk.

- Display information on train times and platform destinations so a workforce member’s time isn’t wasted by answering trivial questions that can be found out by ones-self.

By installing a ticketing system many experts believe it can increase efficiency and dependence on public transport; so the public feel more confident in the British transport sector and leave their car at home. This can only improve the world’s climate change and reduce crowd-filled station platforms.

Outside the UK, many public and private transport companies are embracing touch screen technology for its speed and proficiency.

Mysore, the second biggest city in the State of Karnataka, India, have installed touch screen kiosks at the Mysore Division of the South Western Railway (SWR).

The initiative, which is to make the city railway station one of the best in the country, will introduce multifunctional touch screen information kiosks with an additional facility to dispense platform tickets at the city station. The scheme has been planned to phase out the standalone coin-based ticket vending machines. On average, 1000 platform tickets are sold daily at the Mysore station.
