Kiosks are being deployed in more and more industries as the technology progresses and companies realise how beneficial it can be to both themselves and the consumer.
It seems the sport sector are jumping on the band wagon too, specifically the golfing business.
In the UK alone the market is worth over £100 million with golf club sales estimated at £1.5 billion.
Over 4 million people play the sport in the United Kingdom and around the world there are around 15,000 golf courses to play on.
So it is no surprise that kiosks could aid the sportsmen and women improve their game.
A self-service kiosk has been created that is free to deploy for owners of golf facilities which gives putting lessons to all keen golfers.
The units are installed free of charge with the understanding that the profit will come from lessons sold.
It is estimated that each machine, dubbed the RoboPutt, has the potential to rake in $2,000 a month.
Launched last month at the 2011 PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, Florida, USA, the aim of the touch screen is to help the golfer develop his stroke with his own putters.
It works by keying in a golfer’s personal data that is recorded on a magnetic strip card when the machine performs the swing, to allow players to feel how to properly move the club.
Once the data is stored an employee’s help is no longer needed and he or she can have future lessons on any other kiosk around the world.
Benefits are said to be development of muscle memory, confidence and love of putting.
Furthermore, golfers can listen to tips and advice on a headset and experiment with unlimited posture and stance options to find the one that suits him or her best.
Five minute lessons range from $5-$20 and the shop owner keeps 35% of the revenue.
Professional golfers can also buy their own customised kiosk which will record their swing metrics, swing plane, swing radius, putter lie angle and putter length.
- Inspiring new golfers with cheap lessons
